One's Experience of the James Bay Region in Northern Quebec

Charles Dowdell---Aug 8, 2003

The drive from Rochester NY to Raddison or Chisasibi (CHEE' sa- see- bee) Quebec is a 28 hour trip according to the Automobile Association of America. There is little in the way of population up there with just a couple hundred residents in Raddison and maybe 4000 Cree Indians in Chissisibi. The main roads getting there are all paved (recently). Despite that, you are in wilderness, true wilderness with all the uncertainties and insecurities of a remote wilderness area. Quite frankly there is little to get to up there.
